The thing that bothered me most about Dear Esther was that, in my experience, it DIDN'T utilize any potential of being a 'game.' It didn't do anything a movie could do. I have salvaged what I could recover of my critique on 'art' 'games' like Dear Esther. I know what you're about to do before you do it. My biggest complaint is the overused 'walk in a room, new enemies appear outside of it' mechanic that makes the game more predictable than scary. I liked Bioshock 2 and enjoy immersive sims, so it's been fun so far. The game has aged okay - it's essentially the same game on PS4, complete with unsatisfying controls and a few graphical glitches found in the original reason. I played Bioshock 2 years ago on Xbox 360, now I'm doing the story DLC for the series. My ignorance of the Bioshock 2 plot after not playing it in years meant I was surprised by a plot twist at the end, which was good because I already predicted one plot twist :)īioshock 2: Minerva's Den. I have a soft spot for Bioshock and Rapture, even if Prey did the whole concept better, and it took me some time to get back into the Bioshock mood and spirit. The enemy AI rushes the first thing they see 95% of the time, even though I'm not the biggest threat (I have 6 NPCs that do the fighting for me). Luckily, I've recently upped my Dodge skill, so I can avoid armor damage by kiting the enemies and letting them miss me instead of hitting my companions. My PC is always unarmed because she's so bad at melee I scarred myself 4 times before I gave up and stopped using weapons.

The location is full of enemies that either break weapons or break armor, so I've removed weapons from my entire party. Now that I have a full party and I've leveled up a bit more, I'm back in the Wheel Clan to wipe out nasties and do a couple quests. I won't even bother enumerating the many technical problems with the game, much less the things I think just weren't thought out well. It has enough good in it to stop me from quitting it entirely, but it's infuriating at times. And not in the 'I love it anyway' sense, like some games I love. Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura is such a broken, buggy, unbalanced mess.
